The landscape is characterized by rocks and acacia trees. Damaraland is a desert area that extends from Etosha to Sossusfontein. Mountain peaks dominate the landscape like the Spitzkoppe in the south and the Brandberg near Uis. The main attraction of Damaraland is Twyfelfontein, the valley where ancient petroglyphs have been found. The source in the valley was dry as often as underwater so residents always had doubts about the habitability of the area. Twyfelfontein literally means fountain of doubt in Dutch.
