The images with the intense red and yellow dunes and crisp lines are a source of inspiration for any photographer. The red color of the sand is caused by the high concentration of iron. Sossusvlei is part of the Namib Desert, the oldest desert in the world bordering the Atlantic Ocean from Swakopmund & Walvisbay southward until Lüderitz. The Namib Desert is about 80 million years old. The park covers an area of 50,000 km2 and is one of the largest national parks in Africa.
