This is the hottest place on earth. The Awash river dries up and forms some salt lakes. Futhermore there are the Dallol hotsprings to be found here. The chapel is strewn with paintings and the whole forms a spectecular and mesmerizing spectacle. The country lies just above the north of the equator and shows less variety in temperatures because of this.<\/span><\/span>\n\n<span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Rainfall is caused by the southwestern monsoon from June to September (being called Kiremt), but it only affects regions such as the plateau and the mountainsides in the southwest. In the southeast of the country, there are two rainy seasons: although less intense, and usually from March to May, and in October\/November.<\/span><\/span>\n\n<span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">At the eastern plateau it can be cool and mild or comfortably warm, depending on the altitude; there is a season however that shows mild rains from November to February and from June to September. In March to May there can be some showers and thunder. During monsoon season rains are usually kind of short downpours or even thunderous, mostly in the late afternoon or early evening.<\/span><\/span>\n\n<strong><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Addis Ababa<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\n<span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> The capital Addis Ababa, lies at 2300 meters (7500 feet) above sea level and has a mild climate. Nights are cool, even cold sometimes from November to February, when the temperatures can drop to 10 \u00b0 C (50 \u00b0 F), while days are nice and warm, around 23\/25 \u00b0 C (73\/77 \u00b0 F), except in July \/ August, at the height of the rainy season, when highs drop to 20 \u00b0 C (68 \u00b0 F). During March to May, it is the warmest period of year.<\/span><\/span>\n\n<span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">In Bahir Dar, at 1800 meters (5900 feet) above sea level, on average 1400 mm (55 inches) rain will fall, of which to about 430 mm (17 inches) will fall in July.<\/span><\/span>\n\n<span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Harar (Harer) lies east. at the edge of the plateau, not far from Dire Dawa), here it is cooler but it lies at 1,850 meters (6,070 feet) above sea level.<\/span><\/span>\n\n<strong><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Dry areas\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\n<span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> In the dry or semi-arid areas an average of around 800 mm rain (31.5 inches) per year will fall. These areas are generally at lower levels than the plateau.
