For almost 150 years, Hue was the imperial capital of Vietnam. The many tombs and temples on Perfume River are silent witnesses of this period. The old Imperial palace dates from this rich past.
It was not until in 1945, that the capital moved to Hanoi. During the Vietnam War with the United States, much of the fighting took place here and the Imperial Palace of Hue was badly damaged. A visit to this mighty palace, the prohibited city and a cruise on the Perfume River are well worth the effort.
