In the east you will find the greener hills of the Great Rift Valley towards the salt lakes of Magadi and Tanzania’s Natron. Not only the amazing nature is one of the things that you will experience on the Masai Trails but you will be able to interact with the ancient tribe of the Masai. During your trail you will be guided by Masai warriors that will tell you all about their way of life and survival in the African bush. You will learn about the African flora and the healing properties of these plants and you will be able to identify which animal left which track. This way the Masai know when to keep distance!
The Masai
The Masai are nomadic and there are about a million of them in Kenya and Tanzania, although they do not know any borders. They live in so called Kraals, little villages in a round shape, surrounded by the thorns of the Acacia tree, this should keep away lions. The males are responsible for keeping the tribe safe, while the females build their houses. Cattle is their primary income source and cattle plays a significant role in the community. They eat the meat, drink the blood and milk, use the hides for shelter and the bones for for example combs. They trade the cattle for other cattle, money or animal products.
