Highlights
Sri Lanka boasts an emerald-green interior, ancient royal cities, tea plantations, beaches, and traditional temples. Experience the spiritual tranquility of meditating monks throughout the country.
Sri Lanka is home to at least 3,000 indigenous plant species. Although many plants have been imported, at least one-third of the trees and plants are found nowhere else in the world. One of the most well-known is the frangipani, also known as the temple tree, with its wonderfully fragrant cream-white to deep pink flowers that bloom year-round. You’ll find it near almost every temple, often serving as the site where locals make offerings.
In the botanical gardens of Kandy, all the trees are neatly labeled with their country of origin, and some even have signs indicating who donated the tree.
Bird lovers will also be amazed—Sri Lanka is home to no fewer than 425 different bird species, around 250 of which are endemic to the island.
